Continues nearly $1 million coalition effort to defeat Joni Ernst

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters today launched its second ad in the Iowa Senate race highlighting how Joni Ernst’s agenda of shutting down the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and eliminating the Department of Education is far outside of the mainstream and out-of-step with Iowa voters. The ad, “Wrong Priorities,” starts running this week in the Cedar Rapids and Des Moines media markets.

“Joni Ernst wants to slam shut the doors of EPA and Department of Education and throw away the keys. Her agenda benefits her special interest allies, not Iowa families,” said Daniel J. Weiss, Senior Vice President of Campaigns at the League of Conservation Voters. 

The ad highlights Ernst’s pledge to give polluters a pass and help them profit by shutting down the Environmental Protection Agency, which is responsible for protecting public health by enforcing bedrock environmental laws including the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act. She’s also pledged to eliminate the Department of Education, which helps hundreds of thousands of Iowa students attend college each year through the federal Pell grant program. The ad campaign is part of a nearly $1 million coalition effort by environmental groups including LCV, Sierra Club and Environmental Defense Action Fund to defeat Ernst and elect Bruce Braley to the U.S. Senate in November. LCV launched the effort late last month with a television ad highlighting how Sarah Palin and the Koch Brothers are supporting Ernst so she can enact their radical agenda. 

Unlike Ernst, who even refuses to accept the proven science of man-made climate change, Bruce Braley has stood up to corporate polluters and advocated for commonsense policies to protect our air and water. He’s earned an 88% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
