Washington, D.C. — Following the release of Andrew Yang’s ‘It’s Worse Than You Think – Lower Emissions, Higher Ground’ plan, the League of Conservation Voters released the following statement from SVP of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld:
“Andrew Yang’s sweeping climate plan hits many critical marks, like transitioning away from fossil fuels, committing to reach net-zero emissions economy-wide by 2049, ending fossil fuel subsidies and taking environmental costs into account when measuring the economy. We are glad to see Mr. Yang proposing the types of solutions we need to address the climate crisis, but his embrace of nuclear energy, specifically newer Thorium reactors, without addressing waste and storage issues and the massive cost to taxpayers is concerning. Any plan that involves the adoption of any nuclear energy must specifically address the waste issue and also explicitly take Yucca Mountain off the table as a storage option.”
