WASHINGTON D.C. – In response to the U.S. House of Representatives passing the Water Resources and Development Act, the League of Conservation Voters’ (LCV) Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld issued the following statement:
“Once again, the Republican leaders in Congress are showing their true colors and playing politics with our clean water. By forcing this anti-environmental rider into the final water resources development package and refusing to provide aid to Flint without undermining protections for California waterways, Republican leadership is picking winners and losers about which communities deserve access to clean water. This is unacceptable, and unfortunately, we can expect more of this in the future under a Trump Administration and Congressional Republican leadership seemingly committed to rolling back environmental protections. The community of Flint has waited way too long for help; all communities deserve access to drinking water that is free of lead and other toxic contaminants, and we stand committed to fight for clean water for everyone. We call on the Senate to remove this poison pill rider and finally provide aid to Flint.”
