LCV Statement on Anticipated Passage of Senate Clean Power Plan CRA

Nov 17, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In anticipation of the passage of S.J. Res 23 and S.J. Res. 24, LCV President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement:

“Today’s votes are straight out of the big polluters’ failed playbook. Fortunately, this is nothing more than a desperate and ultimately symbolic attempt by Senate Republican leadership to stop historic climate progress and undermine the momentum leading into the Paris climate negotiations. Meanwhile, the president has been clear he will veto this legislation, states and stakeholders are rolling up their sleeves to implement the Clean Power Plan here in the United States, and over 160 countries around the world have already put forward climate commitments. These commitments include all major emitters and cover more than 90% of global emissions. We commend Senator Boxer for leading the floor fight and the many climate champions who spoke out against these radical measures, as well as the bipartisan group of Senators that we know will vote to defend these safeguards, which are the single biggest step our country has ever taken on climate change and a huge win for our health.”
