Washington, D.C. — In response to the EPA’s announcement that the agency will restore protections for Alaska’s Bristol Bay and block the construction of the immensely destructive Pebble Mine, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) issued the following statement from Deputy Legislative Director Madeleine Foote:

“This is a massive victory for Alaska communities, including over 30 Alaska Native communities, whose way of life for generations has depended on the Bristol Bay watershed. The waters of Bristol Bay contain the world’s largest sockeye salmon fishery and most prolific king salmon run in the world. Today’s move is a step towards long overdue protections for Bristol Bay’s robust and sustainable economy and everyone, including the wildlife, that depend on this critical ecosystem. We look forward to the disastrous Pebble Mine being stopped once and for all.”
