WASHINGTON, DC – In response to the Obama Administration’s announcement on finalizing guidance for the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to incorporate climate change in the review process, LCV’s Vice President of Government Affairs Sara Chieffo issued the following statement:
“Today’s announcement shows that once again President Obama is leading by example and making climate change a top priority. This guidance ensures that climate change is a core part of the environmental review process conducted by federal agencies. This welcome step means that the government will both evaluate proposed projects for their contribution to the pollution fueling climate change, and evaluate climate change’s impacts on proposed projects. The National Environmental Policy Act is one of our bedrock statutes and is responsible for ensuring federal agencies look before they leap and providing the public a critical opportunity to have a say in projects in their backyards.”
