Washington D.C. — Following the close of the International Climate Summit, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) released the following statement from President Gene Karpinski:

“This has been a historic time for climate action, and with the large-scale commitments and investments announced in the past few weeks, President Biden and Vice President Harris have made it clear: America is ready to lead. We are thrilled to see the Biden administration pledge to ensure that the U.S., one of the world’s biggest contributors to carbon emissions, is doing our part in the fight against the climate crisis and urging other countries to do the same. This includes an ambitious and achievable goal to cut our emissions by at least 50% from 2005 levels by 2030, and double our annual international climate finance contributions by 2024.

“By staking out a position of global climate leadership for the U.S., this administration has set a course for a clean energy future that is centered in justice and equity and puts workers and the communities — low income communities and communities of color — most impacted by the climate crisis front and center. The strong international commitments made this week are exactly what we need to drive domestic ambition to solve the climate crisis, center environmental justice communities, and transition to a 100% clean energy economy. As we look ahead, LCV is all in to work with this administration and Congress to quickly pass an infrastructure and investments package that implements climate solutions, maintains and creates good-paying union jobs here in the U.S., advances environmental justice, and propels our nation forward without leaving any communities behind.”
