Washington, D.C. – In response to the Senate’s passage of a motion to go to conference with the House-passed amendment to S.2012, the Energy Policy Modernization Act, LCV Vice President of Government Affairs Sara Chieffo issued the following statement:
“We appreciate the statements from Senators Cantwell and Murkowski about the agreement they have reached setting up a process for and limiting the scope of the energy bill conference. Senator Cantwell especially deserves credit for making sure that the many provisions in the House energy bill package that have already drawn a veto threat from the Obama administration are off the table. However, we are concerned that many controversial items still remain in the scope of the energy bill conference and that the measures being debated will not amount to the true overhaul our energy sector needs. We will be working to ensure that any final conference report makes progress modernizing our energy infrastructure, reducing the pollution fueling climate change, advances critical protections for our treasured lands and waters, and does not roll back core environmental protections.”
