LCV Statement on Passage of House Energy Bill

May 25, 2016

Washington, D.C. – In anticipation of the House motion to conference with the Senate energy bill, LCV Vice President of Government Affairs Sara Chieffo issued the following statement:

“The House version of this energy bill is a grab bag of stale pro-polluter policies and attacks on our environment that increases carbon pollution at a time when the United States has committed to fighting climate change. This sweeping package further entrenches fossil fuels, fails to make the necessary clean energy investments for our future, and includes a broad range of attacks on bedrock environmental protections. Adding hundreds of pages of ideological proposals that limit public participation in energy development, weaken environmental review, and threaten our wildlife and our treasured public lands – among other misguided ideas – does not change the fact this House bill is not a compromise, but another radical exercise in political showmanship in an election year.”
