LCV Statement on Passage of House Energy Bill

Dec 3, 2015

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the House of Representatives passed their energy bill, H.R. 8. In response, LCV Vice President of Government Affairs Sara Chieffo issued the following statement:

“With the world’s leaders gathered in Paris to discuss solutions to climate change and the clock running down to fund the government past December 11, it’s disappointing but not surprising that House Republican leaders have chosen to spend their time advancing an energy bill that benefits dirty fossil fuel interests. This bill does nothing to invest in clean energy, but includes an efficiency title that would increase emissions and consumer costs, a pipeline permitting title aimed at quicker approvals to build through national parks like Yellowstone or Yosemite, and provisions to further entrench fossil fuels. On top of that, it would lift the crude oil export ban. This was yet another missed opportunity to act on climate and create good-paying clean energy jobs.”
