Calling On Congress to Reauthorize and Fully Fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund
Washington, DC – This morning, President Obama highlighted his ongoing commitment to protecting America’s air, land, and wildlife and called on Congress to fully fund and permanently reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), which expired on September 30, 2015. In response, LCV President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement:
“President Obama’s weekly address to the nation underscores once again his unwavering commitment to protecting the planet for future generations, from tackling the climate crisis head on to protecting America’s most treasured landscapes. Unfortunately, Republican leaders in Congress have done nothing but try to block his efforts at every turn, and now they’ve let the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), our nation’s most successful conservation program, expire. Congressional leadership needs to push past their obstructionist colleagues and listen to the American public, thousands of groups across the country, and the president by immediately renewing LWCF with full and mandatory funding.”
