LCV Statement on Secretary Kerry’s Announcement to Double Climate Investments

Dec 9, 2015

Paris, France: Today in Paris, Secretary of State John Kerry announced the United States will commit to doubling its grant-based, public financing for climate change adaptation by 2020. In response, Gene Karpinski, President of the League of Conservation Voters, issued the following statement:

“Secretary Kerry’s announcement is a welcome development at a key time in  negotiations at this hisoric meeting to combat climate change.  This is one more important signal that the United States is stepping up to lead and is serious about securing a strong, ambitious agreement at the UN Climate Summit. An agreement in Paris is essential for getting us started toward a safe pathway that avoids catastrophic climate change, and continued leadership from the United States and the global community will be needed to preserve a safe, livable world for future generations.”
