WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee marked up and passed S. 1324, Senator Capito’s “Polluter Protection Act,” which dismantles the Clean Air Act, blocks implementation of the Clean Power Plan (CPP) and prevents the EPA from protecting public health. In response to this bill’s passage out of committee, LCV President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement:
“This legislation truly is the “Polluter Protection Act.” It puts the health of millions of Americans at risk just so our nation’s largest polluters can continue spewing unlimited carbon pollution. This radical bill strikes at the heart of the Clean Air Act, which has protected our health and improved air quality for over four decades, all while our economy has grown. Instead of moving a polluter-backed bill to block the Clean Power Plan just days after it was finalized, Senators should be listening to public health officials, faith leaders, businesses, and the millions of concerned citizens from across the country calling for climate action and these common sense limits on power plant carbon pollution.”
