WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to the release of the Senate Democrats’ TRUE LEADership Act to address the pervasive problem of lead poisoning, LCV Legislative Representative Madeleine Foote issued the following statement:  

“No parent should be afraid that their tap water is poisoning their child, yet this is the unfortunate reality in Flint and for too many families around the nation. Today thirty Senate Democrats have introduced a package that ensures no child will have to wonder if lead exposure has damaged their chance for a successful future by crafting a broad and thorough proposal that will make much needed investments in water infrastructure and lead remediation, as well as strengthen drinking water protections. At the same time, these programs will create jobs and provide means to tackle the pervasive problem of lead contamination in homes, schools, and communities across the country. We applaud these senators for their leadership, and call on the full Senate to stand up for these public health safeguards and pass this essential legislation as soon as possible.”
