LCV Statement on Senate Markup of Toxic Substances Control Act Reform Legislation

Apr 28, 2015

WASHINGTON DC— In response to the Environment and Public Works Committee’s markup of the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act, a bill to reform the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), LCV Legislative Representative Madeleine Foote released the following statement:

“We greatly appreciate the work of Senators Merkley, Whitehouse, and Booker to make serious improvements to this legislation, but we still have concerns that must be addressed to ensure TSCA reform results in meaningful health protections. We will continue to work with all interested parties to preserve the rights of states to protect their citizens as well as ensure that EPA has the authority and resources it needs to take action on dangerous chemicals. After nearly forty years of trying to reform TSCA, it’s critically important that any final legislation truly protects public health and the environment from toxic chemicals.”
