WASHINGTON, DC – In reaction to the United States and China’s joint announcement on domestic commitments to act on climate change and a vision for an international climate change agreement, League of Conservation Voters (LCV) President Gene Karpinski released this statement:
“Today’s historic announcement sends a strong signal that the world’s two largest economies are ready to lead the world in the fight against climate change. China’s commitment to limit and price the pollution fueling climate change, to help developing countries reduce their emissions, and to significantly cut back its support for overseas coal plants is a big deal. From the Pope’s moral call for world leaders to act to today’s announcements, this week has been an extraordinary one for the millions of people across the world fighting for climate action and shows momentum is building in the lead up to the Paris climate talks. It is increasingly clear that those politicians who side with polluters and try to deny or delay progress on climate and clean energy are on the losing side of history. “
