Washington, DC – League of Conservation Voters (LCV) President Gene Karpinski released this statement on President Obama protecting the San Gabriel Mountains as a national monument: 

“Today’s announcement is great news for California. The San Gabriel Mountains provide one-third of Los Angeles County’s clean drinking water, as well as recreational opportunities for underserved communities and habitat for countless plants and wildlife. President Obama is listening to the local community and stepping in where Congress has failed to act by permanently protecting this special place for future generations.”
