WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to the failure of Sen. Hoeven’s amendment to the FY17 Senate Energy and Water Appropriations bill, LCV Legislative Representative Madeleine Foote issued the following statement:
“Today Big Polluters and their allies in Congress launched yet another failed attack on the EPA and Army Corps’ Clean Water Rule, which restores important safeguards for the small streams that feed into the drinking water supply of one in three Americans. At a time when the public health crises in Flint, Toledo, Charleston, and too many other communities across the country are demonstrating the vulnerabilities of our drinking water supply, trying to undermine the EPA’s tools for protecting clean water is the exact opposite way to go. We thank those Senators who stood up for clean drinking water by opposing this amendment, and urge Republican Senate leadership to stop wasting time attacking environmental and public health protections and instead focus on how to help Flint and ensure no parent has to worry that their drinking water is poisoning their child.”
