LCV Statement on the Senate Voting to Support the Methane Delay Rule

Nov 20, 2025

Washington, D.C.— In response to the Senate voting against a Congressional Review Act resolution introduced by Senators Schiff and Whitehouse that would invalidate the EPA’s recent rule that delays compliance deadlines, the League of Conservation Voters released the following statement from Healthy Communities Program Director Madeleine Foote:

“This vote once again shows that the allegiance of Senate Republicans lies with big polluters and their profits, not the health of our families and communities. By greenlighting EPA’s unlawful delay of compliance deadlines for the oil and gas industry to cut dangerous methane pollution, these Senators have signed off on pumping more cancer-causing pollution into frontline communities, worsening our climate, and wasting money and our natural resources. We thank Senators Schiff and Whitehouse for leading the effort to reverse the EPA’s harmful action and standing up for our communities, and we will continue to fight alongside them for strong methane standards that protect public health and the environment.”
