Washington, D.C. – In response to the Senate vote on the MilCon-VA/Zika conference report today, LCV Legislative Representative Madeleine Foote issued the following statement:

“This extreme bill was a disingenuous attempt by Congressional Republican leadership to confront the Zika crisis – instead they used the process as an excuse to weaken bedrock environmental protections provided by the Clean Water Act. If Republican leadership is serious about protecting public health from the severe threat posed by the Zika virus and passing appropriations bills, they should propose a package devoid of dangerous ideological riders that have no place in spending bills. We commend all of the Senators who stood together today to preserve protections for the clean water our families depend on.”
