In response to the release of Senator Barrasso’s draft legislation to undermine the Endangered Species Act, The League of Conservation Voters released the following statement from Legislative Associate Arian Rubio:
“The protection of wildlife in our nation should be determined by science, not politics. Senator Barrasso’s radical bill to weaken the Endangered Species Act – our nation’s most effective law for protecting wildlife in danger of extinction – is an egregious attack that takes decision making out of the hands of scientists and wildlife experts. Rather than undermine one of our nation’s bedrock conservation laws that has prevented more than 99 percent of listed species from going extinct, Congress should focus on making sure recovery efforts for species at risk of extinction have the resources they need. LCV will continue to strongly oppose this and any other legislation that would undermine the Endangered Species Act and put our nation’s wildlife at risk.”
