LCV’s Ohio Program Statement on Finalization of the EPA’s Clean Power Plan

Aug 3, 2015

OHIO —In response to the EPA’s release of the Clean Power Plan, Beth Nagusky, LCV Ohio Policy Director, issued the following statement:

“The Clean Power Plan is the single biggest step our country has ever taken to combat climate change and is a huge win for public health. These historic standards will ensure that big polluters can no longer spew an unlimited amount of carbon pollution into our air. The Clean Power Plan is a flexible plan that empowers Ohio to craft our own solutions to reduce carbon pollution and spur growth in clean energy. These clean air protections will once again demonstrate that American ingenuity and innovation leads to improved health, lower costs and a stronger economy.”

“We urge Governor Kasich to support the Clean Power Plan and conduct an inclusive stakeholder process that results in a strong made-in-Ohio plan. A good place to start would be to eliminate the two-year freeze on clean energy and the restrictive wind zoning law, both of which were put in place last year. Analyses show that these steps will put Ohio in a strong position to meet the Clean Power Plan pollution reduction goals. Ohio should seize this opportunity to safeguard our health and environment while creating jobs and growing our clean energy economy.”
