Richmond, VA – LCV Victory Fund announced today that Barbara Comstock will take the fourth spot this year on the first-ever House Dirty Dozen list. For more than 20 years, the Dirty Dozen has featured some of the most anti-environment candidates running for office across the country — and this year, the list has been expanded to reflect our biggest ever investment in House races.

Comstock has taken more than $200,000 from big polluters while repeatedly voting to dismantle environmental protections, including supporting efforts to slash funding to protect clean drinking water, voting to block limits on methane pollution, supporting cuts to EPA funding, and supporting transferring public lands to private owners. And despite being a member of the Climate Solutions Caucus, Comstock has repeatedly voted against climate action.

In 2017, Comstock introduced a bill that would overturn Virginia’s offshore drilling ban, putting her polluting donors ahead of Virginia’s environment and local economies. Her consistently poor record on the environment earned her a five percent lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.

“Congress doesn’t have time to wait to act on climate change, yet Barbara Comstock continues to make things worse by blocking important environmental protections — she’s even tried to drill off of Virginia’s coast, despite widespread bipartisan opposition,” said Pete Maysmith, LCV Victory Fund Senior Vice President for Campaigns. “Comstock couldn’t be more out-of-step with her constituents, voting with Trump 98 percent of the time and implementing his destructive, pro-polluter agenda.”

“In her short time in Congress, Barbara Comstock has refused to stand up for our health and environment,” said Lee Francis, Communications Manager at Virginia League of Conservation Voters. “Rising sea levels and climate-fueled natural disasters continue to impact Virginians firsthand, which is why we deserve a real environmental advocate in the House who will protect our clean air and clean water, not someone who’s remained silent as the Trump Administration has worked around the clock to erode environmental safeguards that protect public health.”

LCV Action Fund has endorsed candidate Jennifer Wexton for Virginia’s 10th congressional district, citing her proven record as a champion of clean air and water.
