Washington, D.C. — Today, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) and the NRDC Action Fund announced the launch of two new field programs to work alongside campaigns in battleground states across the country. The $2+ million investment is groundbreaking for major environmental organizations, and among the first canvass efforts in the nation to be in collaboration with campaigns. Paid canvass adds capacity to these campaigns to reach and turn out more voters, including voters historically excluded from voter outreach efforts.
In the days following Labor Day, the NRDC Action Fund launched an ambitious, multi-state paid voter contact program designed to expand civic participation and strengthen voter outreach in four of the nation’s most competitive congressional districts. The program combines paid canvassing, campus-based voter registration, and large-scale relational organizing to connect voters with the issues that matter most to their communities. Through direct voter contact programs in support of JoAnna Mendoza (AZ-06), Rebecca Cooke (WI-03), Will Lawrence (MI-07), and Janelle Stelson (PA-10), trained organizers will engage tens of thousands of voters through door-to-door, student-to-student, and friend-to-friend conversations, helping ensure that everyone who cares about protecting clean air and lowering energy bills is voting this November.
LCV launched its paid field program, Clean Energy Corps, which will run in three high-priority Congressional districts and knock over 150,000 doors to mobilize voters in support of pro-environment, pro-democracy candidates including Representative Kathy Castor (FL-14) and candidates Rebecca Bennett (NJ-07), and Paige Cognetti (PA-08). This program builds on LCV’s long track record of running national paid field programs that increase voter turnout in tight races.
“The NRDC Action Fund is running a cutting-edge program this cycle, pioneering new tactics and taking advantage of new opportunities to help campaigns turn out voters,” said Jed Ober, Managing Director for Political Affairs of the NRDC Action Fund. “By supplementing campaigns’ existing organizing efforts, we can multiply the impact of a field program and both mobilize and persuade key voters in races that will likely be decided by just one or two points.”
