Banning Offshore Drilling in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans

House Roll Call Vote 525

2019

Pro-environment vote

Yes

Representative Joe Cunningham (D-SC) sponsored H.R. 1941, the Coastal and Marine Economies Protection Act, which would prohibit drilling off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. The bill also included amendments establishing a moratorium on seismic blasting off the Atlantic coast and authorizing studies on the impacts of offshore drilling on coastal communities, including the economic risks to tourism, fishing, boating, and other activities. This bill is a key step in the transition away from dirty energy and in the protection of coastal communities nationwide and marine wildlife from the devastating effects of oil spills that can wreck entire economies and marine ecosystems. On September 11, the House approved H.R. 1941 by a vote of 238–189 (House roll call vote 525). YES IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
