Raleigh, North Carolina – LCV Victory Fund today released a new TV ad highlighting why Mark Harris is wrong for North Carolina’s ninth congressional district. The $677,000 ad, which will air for two weeks, focuses on Harris supporting tax breaks for corporate polluters who spew toxins into North Carolina’s air and water.

Harris also takes the ninth spot on the first-ever House Dirty Dozen list. For more than 20 years, the Dirty Dozen has featured some of the most anti-environment candidates running for office across the country who LCV Victory Fund is working to defeat.

“Mark Harris refuses to accept the science behind climate change, despite North Carolina experiencing sea level rise and climate-fueled natural disasters,” said Pete Maysmith, LCV Victory Fund Senior Vice President for Campaigns. “In Congress, Harris wouldn’t stand up to the Trump administration’s radical offshore drilling expansion or their myriad of attacks on clean air and water.”

Harris flatly denied climate science during a debate in 2014 and has said that the federal government should not address climate change.

“North Carolinians need Congress to fight for our coasts and ensure our families have clean drinking water, yet Mark Harris has shown he only cares about profits for big polluters,” said Dan Crawford of the North Carolina League of Conservation Voters. “It’s time to stop ignoring climate change and start investing in solutions, including solar energy.”

This is LCV Victory Fund’s second TV ad in North Carolina, following an ad targeting Rep. Ted Budd in the 13th congressional district earlier this month.

LCV Action Fund has endorsed solar entrepreneur Dan McCready in the race, saying he recognizes the economic, health and national security risks associated with climate change.
