Washington, DC- The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today its endorsement of Theresa Greenfield for U.S. Senate from Iowa.

“Iowans are already feeling the impacts of extreme weather fueled by the climate crisis, and they deserve a Senator who will take action, not one who continues to deny science,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “That’s why LCV Action Fund is thrilled to endorse Theresa Greenfield. She understands the needs of families in every corner of Iowa, and she is committed to investing in the Hawkeye State’s clean energy economy. We know she has what it takes to fight for communities across the state.”

“I’m so grateful to have the support of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund in our campaign, and I look forward to being a Senator for Iowa who supports climate action and understands the importance of protecting our environment,” said U.S. Senate candidate Theresa Greenfield. “With record flooding and severe weather harming our families and communities here in Iowa, it’s increasingly clear that we can’t afford leaders who reject the science on climate change and who refuse to take action to tackle this crisis. In the Senate, I’ll be proud to fight for strong clean energy solutions, invest in good-paying jobs, and defend and strengthen our environmental laws that are under attack from Mitch McConnell and the corporate special interests in Washington.”

Theresa Greenfield grew up on a family farm, where she learned the value of hard work and self-reliance. When the farm crisis of the 1980s hit rural families like Theresa’s, she did not give up on her dream to attend college. With the help of financial aid and multiple part-time jobs, she put herself through school. When Theresa was just 24 years old, her first husband — a union electrical worker — died tragically on the job. She had a 13 month-old and another on the way. With the support of her family, community, Social Security, and workers’ compensation, she restarted her life and continued her education as an urban planner. Theresa built a successful business career, and today, she is president of one of Des Moines’ oldest family-held real estate companies.

Greenfield is committed to acting on climate and investing in Iowa’s clean energy economy as a U.S. Senator. Since announcing her campaign, she has focused on climate-fueled flooding disasters and has called out Trump’s EPA for prioritizing Big Oil. Greenfield’s opponent, Senator Joni Ernst has continually denied the science of climate change and earned an abysmal 1% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
