LCV Statement on Interior Department’s Conservation Announcement

Sep 22, 2015

Washington, DC – Today, the Department of the Interior announced that conservation efforts have made a ‘threatened’ or ‘endangered’ listing under the Endangered Species Act unnecessary for the Greater sage-grouse and finalized management plans that lay the groundwork for protecting sagebrush habitat in eleven western states. In response, LCV President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement:

“This is a bipartisan win for conservation. Today’s announcement is the result of unparalleled collaboration across all levels of government and will further the protections for millions of acres of western land along with hundreds of species that call the sagebrush sea home. As these plans go into effect, we are eager to see them provide the necessary protections for the Greater sage-grouse.”
