Washington, D.C. – In response to Republicans taking a slim majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) issued the following statement from SVP of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld:

“While we are disappointed that anti-environmental Republicans will hold a slim majority in the House in the next Congress, it’s clear that any attempts to weaken long-standing environmental and public health protections or recent climate progress would be at their peril. Voters overwhelmingly rejected many anti-democracy zealots and anti-climate action candidates in the pocket of Big Oil and instead turned out for far more champions who passed or supported the largest climate bill in U.S. history than any pundit or poll predicted. The extremely narrow incoming House Republican majority and their leadership team are completely out of touch with the vast majority of voters who support climate action and affordable clean energy. With strong public support and a pro-environment Senate and White House, LCV will fight like hell to keep delivering the progress on climate, justice, and jobs that voters want.”
