Washington, D.C. — In advance of the expected Senate confirmation of Trump judicial nominee Justin Walker to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) released the following statement from Judiciary Program Director Ben Driscoll:

“Senate Republicans are exploiting the resurging coronavirus crisis and nationwide outcry against systemic racism and brutality in our policing to push through a political favor for Leader McConnell and the president and confirm an unfit, partisan ideologue to one of the most powerful federal courts – for a seat that won’t even be open until September. Senate Republicans made clear with this vote today who they serve – and it certainly is not their constituents.

“Justin Walker will be nothing more than a rubber stamp enabling Trump’s efforts to abuse his authority, roll back critical protections, and put our communities’ health and wellbeing at further risk. Walker’s record indicates he’ll use his position on the court to side with corporate polluters over people, perpetuating environmental racism that leaves communities of color suffering the most from climate change and toxic pollution.

“Justin Walker ‘earned’ this position through his political connections and willingness to appear on Fox News in defense of the president, and is in no way prepared for or interested in the business of fairly applying the law. It’s long past time for the Senate to put the needs of our communities first and halt the confirmation of these unfit judges.”
