As founding members of the New England for Offshore Wind Coalition, our state affiliates in the region are accelerating the transition to clean offshore wind energy. This video series explores how the movement has mobilized communities, businesses, and labor unions to work together toward an equitable and just clean energy transition.
To combat climate change, equitably transitioning to clean energy is critical. LCV’s New England state affiliates in the Conservation Voters Movement – Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont – are founding members of the New England for Offshore Wind Coalition, a powerful group of over 100 organizations advocating for responsibly developing offshore wind power in the region.
New England for Offshore Wind has built a powerful movement by bringing together environmental groups, labor unions, fisheries, businesses and other community stakeholders to shape clean energy policy that centers the diverse needs of real communities.
Low-income communities and communities of color have historically been impacted the most by corporate polluters and our reliance on dirty fossil fuels. Acting for climate justice is integral to ensure an equitable and inclusive approach to the clean energy transition.
Climate change is already intensifying storms, extreme heat, and blackouts – all of which can be deadly. Harnessing the potential of offshore wind power is an incredible opportunity to provide substantial clean energy and reduce the harmful emissions that cause climate change, helping avert the worst impacts.
New transmission lines must be built to transport clean energy generated by offshore wind to homes, businesses and communities. New England for Offshore Wind is advocating for smart policy to build a modern, reliable and resilient electric power grid for our clean energy future.
Offshore wind energy means local economic investment and opportunity in a new, growing industry sector. Transitioning to clean energy creates good-paying jobs and labor voices are an important partner in creating a just clean energy economy.
Beyond New England, the Conservation Voters Movement is making strides in clean energy across the country. The 2023 Clean Energy Success in the States Report details the progress toward equitable and just clean energy development that our state affiliates secured in the past year.
