WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Luis Gutiérrez for Congress (IL-04). Congressman Gutiérrez supports climate action legislation, clean energy initiatives and public health protections.
“For two decades, Congressman Luis Gutiérrez’s fiery voice has been essential in Congress—he’s an experienced environmental ally who we can count on in the fight against climate change,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “Congressman Gutiérrez has supported clean energy and environmental justice initiatives every step of the way, ensuring our nation and Illinois’ 4th District remain healthy places to live.”
“I am deeply gratified to receive the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, one of the leading advocacy organizations working to hold elected officials accountable for our votes and actions on the environment,” said Gutierrez. “As my constituents and Americans know, the fight for a cleaner environment is a fight for justice, and I consider climate action among my highest priorities.”
Over his 12 terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, Gutiérrez has built a robust environmental record focused on addressing climate change, advancing clean energy and protecting public health. He is a strong supporter of the EPA’s Clean Power Plan, the single largest step our country has taken to combat climate change. Additionally, he’s consistently voted in favor of transitioning to a clean energy economy and ending our dependence on fossil fuels—including support for the landmark 2009 American Clean Energy and Security Act and opposition to the Keystone XL pipeline.
As the senior member of the Illinois House delegation and a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Gutiérrez is an experienced and thoughtful advocate for the people of Illinois’ 4th District. He has worked to safeguard their public health by calling for a stronger ozone standard, holding polluters accountable for cleaning up contaminated superfund sites, and voting to strengthen clean water protections. Gutiérrez can be relied on to fight for these and other critical environmental justice issues.
Gutiérrez has earned a 90 percent lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. The non-partisan Scorecard is the nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s record. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org.
Gutiérrez is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions for federal office.
