Washington, DC: Based on press reports that President Trump is poised to withdraw the U.S. from the historic Paris Climate Agreement, Gene Karpinski, president of the League of Conservation Voters, issued the following statement:

“This would be a new low, even for President Trump and Administrator Pruitt who have prioritized polluter profits over kids’ health at every step of the way. Such a decision would be bad business, bad policy and bad politics. With this wildly irresponsible decision, President Trump would not only jeopardize the health and safety of American communities, but also undermine the United States’ position of global leadership on a host of issues. The landmark Paris Climate Agreement was a critical turning point in combatting the climate crisis, which has devastating impacts on our health, our economy and our environment.

With or without U.S. leadership, other countries, businesses, states, cities and citizens are continuing the unstoppable march toward the clean energy economy. The League of Conservation Voters stands with the majority of voters who want climate action and will continue holding this administration accountable, fighting back, and making progress in cities and states across the country.”
