WASHINGTON, DC—The California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) and League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, announced today their endorsement of Nanette Barragán for Congress (CA-44). Barragán has been a long-time advocate for the protection of our air, water and precious natural landscapes.
“Barragán was a strong environmental champion on the city council, and we are confident that she will continue this same leadership in Congress,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “She will fight to safeguard the air, lands and water that we all rely on. She constantly puts her constituents ahead of Big Oil because she understands that we have an obligation to leave our children and grandchildren a clean and healthy planet.”
As a city councilwoman, Barragán actively worked to safeguard the air we breathe and the water we drink. She stood up to Big Oil by opposing oil drilling off Hermosa Beach, and helped successfully lead an effort to defeat a ballot measure to drill in the Santa Monica Bay. Barragán also worked hard to ban plastic bags, which have many negative environmental impacts including threats to marine wildlife.
“Barragán’s record speaks for itself,” said Sarah Rose, CEO of the California League of Conservation Voters. “She is a tireless advocate for the environment and the community she hopes to serve in Congress. Barragán knows the common-sense steps we need to take to protect the planet for future generations. She demonstrated incredible drive in her fight against Big Oil in the Santa Monica Bay, and we look forward to seeing that passion applied to similar issues in Congress.”
“I’ve taken on the big oil companies and the polluters before, so I know what it means to commit yourself to fighting for cleaner, healthier, stronger communities,” said Barragán. “LCV works tirelessly to ensure we have clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, and a sustainable, economically strong future. I am honored to have the support of CLCV and LCV Action Fund and look forward to working with them to put the health of our communities over the profits of big, corporate polluters.”
In Congress, Barragán will continue to be a leader on environmental issues, including critical environmental justice issues that are particularly important for the communities of the 44th District, which are among the most at-risk for pollution in the state. Barragán strongly supports the reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which helps to fund National Parks, urban parks, ball fields and open spaces treasured by the 44th district.
Barragán is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions for federal office.
