May 19, 2014

SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO – Conservation Voters New Mexico (CVNM) Executive Director Demis Foster and League of Conservation Voters (LCV) President Gene Karpinski released this statement following news reports that President Barack Obama will designate the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks in New Mexico’s Dona Ana County a national monument later this week:

“This designation is great news for New Mexico. President Obama and Secretary Jewell’s leadership, together with that of Senators Heinrich and Udall, is a recognition of the broad local support for protecting the area’s spectacular natural beauty and its unique significance at the crossroads of New Mexican and American history. We encourage the President and Secretary Jewell to keep building their conservation legacy and protecting our magnificent public lands during this ‘Year of Action’ and beyond.”
