WASHINGTON, DC –GiveGreen and GiveGreen in the States have together already raised or contributed more than $3 million for pro-environment federal and state candidates in the 2015-2016 election cycle.
LCV Action Fund’s federal GiveGreen program, which is supported by the NRDC Action Fund PAC, helps to elect pro-environment candidates at the federal level. To date, GiveGreen has raised the most money for Russ Feingold (WI-Sen) with at least $231,947 and Catherine Cortez Masto (NV-Sen) with at least $254,283.
GiveGreen in the States is a new project of LCV Political Engagement Fund and NextGen Climate to help support pro-environment candidates in the states. Last year, GiveGreen in the States focused on Virginia candidates, and this year, the state program has expanded to include candidates in other states, such as North Carolina and Washington.
“We are well on our way to helping elect more environmental champions at the both the state and federal levels. It’s clear that there is tremendous support for these candidates, and we look forward to raising even more money for them in the months to come,” said Gene Karpinski, president of LCV Action Fund.
“GiveGreen is providing environmental donors an opportunity to demonstrate their power in this election cycle. That’s never been more important, because the consequences of electing the allies of big polluters are pretty dire,” said Kevin Curtis, executive director of the NRDC Action Fund.
“This election is so important for the future of our country and our climate. We are working across the board to make sure we are electing the leaders we need to make sure we are protecting American’s health, national security, and make sure that we are we are transitioning to a clean energy economy,” said Jenna Narayanan, vice president of development for NextGen Climate.
During the 2014 election cycle, GiveGreen raise or contributed more than $5.8 million to pro-environment candidates, up from $2 million in the 2012 cycle.
The GiveGreen total of over $3 million includes all contributions raised or contributed in 2015-2016 for federal candidates, as well as contributions raised and contributed through GiveGreen in the States and by state LCV partners to nonfederal candidates.
