Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today the endorsement of Admiral Mike Franken for election to the U.S. Senate representing Iowa.
“Admiral Franken understands the national security threat that a changing climate poses to future generations and is committed to tackling environmental issues head on,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are thrilled to support his campaign to represent Iowa in the U.S. Senate because we know that he will fight for clean water, healthy air, and a resilient climate with the urgency it requires. With Iowa facing increased frequencies of climate-driven disasters – from more frequent heavy precipitation and floods to droughts and extreme heat – we need leaders like Admiral Franken who will fight to protect all communities from the impacts of the climate crisis and help ensure Iowa continues to be a leader in clean energy.”
“We cannot wait for tomorrow to make the decisions today that will affect the future of our follow-on generations,” said Admiral Mike Franken. “I much appreciate the support of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, and look forward to working with them to build a better future for all.”
Mike Franken is a retired U.S. Navy vice admiral born in Sioux Center, Iowa. He is a graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School’s college of physics, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Seminar XXI, the University of Virginia school of executive education, the Brookings Institution’s legislative affairs curriculum, and Babson College’s business leadership program. After commanding various programs during his career in the U.S. military, he held a fellowship in congressional affairs for the Office of the Secretary of the Navy, served as the political-military chair in the Chief of Naval Operations’ Executive Panel, worked for the Joint Staff’s Joint Operations Division for U.S. Pacific Command, and served as a legislative fellow for U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA).
