Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Senator Mazie Hirono for re-election to the U.S. Senate from Hawaii.
“Senator Hirono is a champion for the environment and the people of Hawaii,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “She has fought tirelessly for clean air and water for all, for protecting Hawaii’s beautiful lands and wildlife, and for increasing investment in clean energy. We need Senator Hirono’s voice in the Senate now more than ever, and we are proud to endorse her once again as she runs for reelection.”
“There is much work do to, and I’m honored to stand with the League of Conservation Voters as we fight back against the Trump administration’s attacks on the environment and efforts to discredit climate change,” said Senator Hirono. “I look forward to continuing our work together to protect our aina and water resources. Mahalo to the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund for their endorsement.”
While serving in the U.S. House, Senator Hirono co-sponsored the Safe Climate Act of 2007 and voted for the landmark 2009 American Clean Energy and Security Act. In the Senate, she has worked to highlight the negative impacts of climate change on Hawaii and has voted to protect the EPA’s historic Clean Power Plan. Senator Hirono has earned an impressive 94% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
Senator Hirono is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions for federal office. Last cycle, LCV Action Fund raised or contributed more to candidates through GiveGreen than ever before—over $8.3 million for state and federal candidates.
