WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) announced today the expansion of its grassroots program, GreenRoots, to mobilize its members as volunteers in three additional states, Illinois, Nevada and Virginia, to help elect Hillary Clinton as our next president and LCV Action Fund’s endorsed Senate candidates to restore a pro-environment majority to the U.S. Senate. With this expansion, GreenRoots is active in 11 states. LCV is investing $1.8 million in the GreenRoots program, which will have more than 80 field staff. The program is active in the following states:
“LCV is thrilled to help elect Hillary Clinton as our next president and to help elect and re-elect many Senate champions through our GreenRoots program,” said Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “LCV members know that the stakes couldn’t be higher when it comes to protecting the environment and fighting climate change, and that’s why they are volunteering their time to knock on doors, make phone calls, and attend events for these candidates to help them win on Election Day.”
“I’m excited to be hitting the pavement and talking to voters about what’s at stake in this election,” said LCV member Clare McCullough from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. “We need a president and senator who will protect our air, water and health and will work to tackle climate change, not deny the basic science. That’s why I decided to volunteer with LCV to help Hillary Clinton and Russ Feingold win in Wisconsin.”
LCV’s GreenRoots program first launched this cycle in January 2016 with 24 field staff who mobilized 270 members and completed over 1,100 volunteer shifts for Hillary Clinton ahead of the Iowa, Nevada and Colorado caucuses and the New Hampshire and Pennsylvania primaries.
