Washington, D.C. — As climate-fueled storms, floods, fires, and droughts pummel the United States and House committees finalize the details of the Build Back Better Act while other Members of Congress meet with constituents back home, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) and Climate Power are unleashing $6 million in new spending on paid media campaigns in D.C. and key states and Congressional Districts across the country because, as one ad says, “our window to act is closing, and once it does, it may never open again.”

“Communities in every corner of the country are suffering from the devastating impacts of the climate crisis and Congress has the opportunity right now with the Build Back Better Act to course correct and put us on the path to a cleaner, safer, healthier future,” said Pete Maysmith, LCV SVP of Campaigns. “It is imperative that the Build Back Better Act passes in the next few weeks and puts the nation firmly on track to cut carbon emissions 50 percent by 2030 — the goal that President Biden set and science and justice require.”

“As President Biden said this week, this is a ‘code red’ moment for our planet,” said Lori Lodes, Climate Power Executive Director. “Congress is on the verge of making history by passing a Build Back Better Act with climate investments that will create good-paying jobs, reduce costs for families, and slash pollution to create a more equitable future. It’s time Congress finishes the job so America can get to work building our clean energy economy.”

Climate Power’s new TV ad “Almost There” is up on cable and broadcast in Washington, D.C. The ad highlights how close Congress is to passing a clean energy plan that meets the moment. LCV is up with new TV and digital ads which thank members for supporting bold climate action and clean energy jobs for working families. LCV’s ads come after recent attacks from big polluters and their allies and are running in the following states and Congressional districts:

TV and digital:

Digital ads only:

  • IL-14 (Rep. Underwood)
  • NJ-11 (Rep. Sherrill)
  • NY-19 (Rep. Delgado)
  • OR-04 (Rep. DeFazio)
  • PA-07 (Rep. Wild)
  • PA-08 (Rep. Cartwright)

This post-Labor Day blitz comes on top of more than $14 million in paid media investments during August alone, including a Climate Power buy calling out Republicans in California and Florida for their hypocritical votes against their constituents, and LCV ad buys thanking House members and Senators for passing the budget resolution.
