Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) congratulates Senator Cory Booker, Andy Kim (NJ-03), Josh Gottheimer (NJ-05), Tom Malinowski (NJ-07), Bill Pascrell (NJ-09), Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) and Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) on their victories in New Jersey.
“These candidates have shown us why the Garden State will continue to see bold action on climate,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “LCV is excited to work with these climate and environmental justice champions in Congress as we work to advance New Jersey’s clean energy future.”
Environmental donors contributed over $500,000 to New Jersey candidates via GiveGreen. GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund, NextGen America, and the NRDC Action Fund PAC that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates — raised a record $43 million for the 2020 cycle.
LCV Victory Fund invested over $300,000 to defeat Andy Kim’s opponent, David Richter, who was named to LCV Victory Fund’s Dirty Dozen.
LCV Action Fund endorsed Booker, Kim, Gottheimer, Malinowski, Pascrell, Sherrill and Watson Coleman because of their commitments to protecting New Jersey’s air and water, fighting climate change, and creating good-paying clean energy jobs. LCV Action Fund also endorsed Amy Kennedy (NJ-02) but the race has not been called.
These are just some of the climate champions who won up and down the ballot, demonstrating that leaning into environmental issues is both good policy and good politics.
