Aug 4, 2015

WASHINGTON, DC – The League of Conservation Voters and Conservation Voters for Idaho celebrated the Senate’s passage today of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area and Jerry Peak Wilderness Additions Act, which would permanently protect more than 275,000 acres as wilderness in central Idaho’s Boulder-White Clouds region.  This legislation passed the House of Representatives on July 27 and will now go to the president for his signature.

LCV’s Deputy Legislative Director Alex Taurel issued the following statement:

“This is a great victory for the people of Idaho and all of us who treasure the majestic Boulder-White Clouds mountains.  Nearby communities will reap the benefits as their tourism economies and quality of life see a boost as a result of preserving the Boulder-White Clouds.  We look forward to the president signing this legislation to permanently protect this spectacular region so that future generations can hike, camp, and fish in this unparalleled wilderness.”

CVI’s Executive Director Courtney Washburn issued the following statement:

“What a great day it is for all of us in Idaho who have worked for so long to protect the spectacular Boulder-White Clouds.  We and our thousands of supporters are overjoyed that the Boulder-White Clouds will now be permanently protected.  We hope President Obama will swiftly sign this bill to preserve these majestic mountains forever.”
