WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will mark up S.1140, Senator Barrasso’s dirty water bill that would undermine the Environmental Protection Agency and Army Corps of Engineers’ recently finalized Clean Water Rule. In response, LCV Legislative Representative Madeleine Foote issued the following statement:
“This bill puts the desires of big polluters ahead of the drinking water of 117 million Americans by scrapping the EPA and Army Corps’ scientifically-sound Clean Water Rule. Anti-environmental Senators are ignoring the science and limiting the critical protections of the Clean Water Act, while wasting time and taxpayer money by forcing the agencies to re-do analyses and consultations. With 80 percent of voters supporting the Clean Water Rule, the public is sending a clear message to Congress – stand up to big polluters and protect the clean water our children and grandchildren drink, swim, and play in.”
