LCV on Introduction of ‘Frack Pack’ Legislation in the House

Mar 18, 2015

WASHINGTON, DC – League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Legislative Representative Madeleine Foote released this statement in response to the introduction of the “Frack Pack” legislation, five bills that will remove exemptions and close loopholes that oil and gas companies use to circumvent major environmental legislation:

“While oil and gas companies take advantage of loopholes and exceptions in our bedrock environmental laws, our communities assume all the risk.  By holding fracking companies to the same standards as other industries—requiring steps like groundwater testing and disclosure of chemicals used—the “Frack Pack” will help safeguard our drinking water, protect our environment, and reduce air pollutants.  There’s no question about it—our communities have a right to know what oil and gas companies are up to in their backyards, and the “Frack Pack” is a step in the direction of transparency.”
