LCV Statement on CEQ and NOAA Nominees

Oct 13, 2017

Today League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinksi released the following statement on President Trump’s nominations of Kathleen Hartnett-White to lead the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) and Barry Myers to head the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA):

“With these nominations, Trump is doubling down on being the most anti-environmental president and administration in history. Appointing a climate denier and friend of the fossil fuel industry like Hartnett-White to such a vital environmental policy position is a complete joke. And by tapping Myers to head NOAA, Trump is choosing to ignore a severe conflict of interest in his role as president of AccuWeather where he put corporate interests above providing people with access to crucial weather information – which is especially dangerous as we experience the devastating effects of climate change, including more extreme hurricanes and wildfires.

“Both Myers and Hartnett-White are extremists who are not fit to serve in these vitally important positions, and LCV strongly opposes these nominations.”
