LCV Statement on Administration’s Efforts to Reduce the Use of HFCs

Sep 16, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC — League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Legislative Director Sara Chieffo released this statement on the series of steps announced by the Obama administration today to reduce the use of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), chemicals used in refrigeration and air conditioning, insulated foams and aerosol products that have a significant negative impact on our climate. These steps span voluntary commitments from companies and executive actions that would expand the use of safer compounds and fund research and development into cutting edge alternatives to HFCs.

“This announcement is welcome news for those working to tackle climate change. We commend the Administration and the major companies that are taking steps to reduce hydrofluorocarbons — chemicals that have a significant negative impact on our climate and are currently used in a variety of products from refrigeration to insulated foams.”
