Washington, D.C. – On the third anniversary of the beginning of the Black Lives Matter movement, the League of Conservation Voters issued the following statement in solidarity:
“The League of Conservation Voters strives to make environmental justice a pillar of our work. There is simply no question that institutional racism has left people of color in this country with an overwhelming and unjust share of unhealthy air, unsafe drinking water and exposure to toxics. But of course in addition to deserving clean air and clean water, African American families deserve to live without fear for their lives. LCV believes that black lives matter, and we stand in solidarity with those calling for justice, accountability, and an end to violence—both against innocent African Americans and police officers. We must come together as a nation to fix this.”
