Washington, D.C. – In response to Congressman Mark Takai (D, HI-01) passing away, LCV President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement:

“During his far too brief time in Congress, Congressman Takai distinguished himself as a strong environmental leader who stood up for our planet and families in Hawaii. He never shied away from taking on Big Polluters, working to expand clean energy, combat climate change and protect our air, water, lands and wildlife. Congressman Takai’s leadership helped put his district, state and country on a path toward a sustainable future. We are deeply saddened by the news of his passing, and will keep his family and friends in our thoughts.”
