Washington, DC – With India and the European Union officially joining, the Paris Climate Agreement crosses the thresholds required for it to enter into force. In response, LCV President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement:
“This is a historic day. Today’s developments are yet more powerful evidence of the momentum for climate action. Countries, states, cities, and communities are already dealing with the devastating impacts of climate change and understand the urgency of this challenge. We commend the wide array of leaders from heads of state to local elected officials to CEOs who are stepping up to hasten the transition from the dirty fossil fuels of the past to a resilient economy powered by clean energy. Polluters and their allies who are trying to block historic and popular progress on climate change, including the Clean Power Plan, are dangerously out of step with their constituents and on the wrong side of history.”
