Washington, D.C. – Following today’s subcommittee markup of the House Appropriations Interior and Environment bill, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) released the following statement from Government Affairs Advocate David Shadburn:

“Thank you to Interior Subcommittee Chair Chellie Pingree, Appropriations Chair Rosa DeLauro, and Democratic members of the committee for advancing this strong budget with significant increases in funding for our environment, public lands, clean water, and environmental justice. EPA, DOI, and other key agencies need adequate funding to ensure they have the capacity needed to fully address longstanding environmental injustices against our communities, our health, our wildlife, and more. We are particularly excited to see $150 M for the Diesel Emissions Reduction Program and the removal of harmful anti-environmental policy riders.

“At a time when communities are experiencing climate disasters in their backyards and record-breaking gas prices from price-gouging by oil and gas companies at the pump, it could not be more important for Congress to implement President Biden’s 2023 budget with the investments we need in climate, clean energy, justice, and jobs. Today’s markup is an exciting first step and we look forward to working with House and Senate leaders to get this bill passed and to President Biden’s desk.”
